
There is no greater misery in the world, highest cliff, or deeper darkness than sin. Sin is any willful act that separates us from our communion with God.
If we, as human beings, were created by God and for Him, then sin keeps us from our own essence, the reason for our existence. It also deeply hurts our dignity and the heart of the Lord. Sin leads to the absence of God, and the absence of God is what we call hell.
There are "sins that engender other sins and other vices" (CCC 1866), which are, thus, called capital. They are: "pride, avarice, envy, wrath, lust, gluttony, and sloth" (CCC 1866). Let's examine each of these seven over two formations.
