Faith and Science
| Catholic Formation |

When we speak of faith and science we usually see them as entirely different subjects, which is not true. Faith and science are more related than we think! Blessed John Paul II once said, "Faith and reason are the two wings on which the human spirit soars to contemplate the fact". How profound are these words! When I imagine these wings, I think of a bird that cannot rise on only one. Both wings need to be synchronized in order to fly. The same is the human mind that cannot contemplate the truth if faith and reason are not in harmony!
There are many who do not believe in the existence of God and rely on scientific facts to explain why. With only a few facts in hand, they say that the Bible is merely a book of novels. Many of these people are graduates in medicine, physics, biology and so on, but they di not study theology. Thus, some have arrived at conclusions such as thinking the Earth was flat and the sun revolved around it! That's why the Catholic Church has a group of scholars that study the scriptures. Furthermore, our faith is not only supported by the scriptures, but also in Tradition, in the catechism, the code of canon law and in various encyclicals.
